Barak commends Obama for his Middle East peace initiative

Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Monday commended US President Barak Obama for his Middle East peace initiative. "I am convinced that on the diplomatic front, we need to praise President Obama's initiative for a regional settlement, and this is also the position of the Labor party," said Barak during his party's faction meeting. "We, the government, are committed to all agreements signed by previous governments, including the 'Road Map,' which explicitly affirms a commitment to two states," he continued. "Of course, we expect every security consideration and requirement, Israel's vital needs, to be taken into consideration when we get to negotiations, and that if such negotiations end in two states for two peoples, that will lead to an end to the conflict and to the demands by both sides."
