Bill extending education preliminarily approved

The Knesset approved in preliminary reading a bill to extend the law of free education up to the age of 18 years. Currently the law is in effect on children up to 16 years old. MK Rabbi Michael Malchior (Labor-Meimad) said the bill was "a revolutionary suggestion that puts Israel alongside the world-leading countries when it comes to education. The bill expresses the government's obligation towards tens of thousands of children who, in the current situation, get ejected from the system."
