Classes cancelled throughout J'lem

Haifa schools to strike Wednesday; teachers demand an increase in wages.

The Secondary School Teachers Association and student representatives renewed an ongoing wave of strikes on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the association announced that secondary schools throughout Haifa would strike on Wednesday. Teachers are demanding an improvement in the wage schedule and an increase in the number of early retirement packages offered to educators. University students were continuing their battle for an answer to issues surrounding the lowering of tuition fees. Secondary schools in the Jerusalem, Mevaseret Zion, Ma'ale Adumim, Givat Ze'ev, Gush Etzion, Beit Shemesh, Abu Gosh, Ma'aleh Ephraim, the southern Jordan Valley and the Binyamin region will continue to strike throughout the day. Classes in Modi'in, Maccabim, Re'ut, Ulpananot Tzvia and Ashkelon will also be cancelled. Tel Aviv University and Kiryat Ono's Academic Campus (a non-government subsidized college), will not hold classes or examinations.
