Degel Hatorah and Agudat Yisrael were on the verge of finalizing a reunion Wednesday evening after a year-long split. At press time, the sides were finalizing a few technicalities.
According to the agreement between the sides, Aguda will receive three slots in the top six and Degel will get two. If the united list - called United Torah Judaism - receives six mandates, the sixth mandate will be shared by the two parties.
Rabbi Israel Eichler, representative of the Belz Hassidic dynasty in Aguda, will serve for the first two years and new Degel MK Uri Maklev will serve for the second two years.
Sources close to the negotiations said Eichler refused to participate in a rotation. Eichler rotated in the previous Knesset with Shmuel Halpert.
However, Ya'acov Litzman, chairman of Aguda, warned that Eichler would be replaced if he refused to accept.
If the UTJ receives only five mandates, the split will be three for Aguda, two for Degel.
Polls forecast five to six mandates for the UTJ.
