Ethiopian disqualified from running in Likud slot reserved for oleh

The Likud Election Committee on Tuesday disqualified an Ethiopian candidate from running in the 30th spot on the party's Knesset slate, which is reserved for an oleh. The committee explained that Alali Adamso could not run because he had made aliya in 1983, two years before 1985 - the year set down by the committee as the earliest date of immigration when one can still be considered a new immigrant. Adamso will be replaced on the list by Russian Vladimir Shklar, the former CEO of the Beitar Jerusalem soccer club.
