Group blasts A-G decision to close Bar On double voting case

The Movement for Quality Government blasted Tuesday the decision by Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz to close the case against Finance Minister Roni Bar-On in which Bar-On was suspected of involvement in a double-voting scandal while serving as a Likud MK. "It cannot be that Bar-On's blood is thicker than that of Hazan - the argument that the issue is outside of the statute of limitations is irrelevant," wrote the Movement in response to Mazuz's decision, and promised to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court. Mazuz said Monday afternoon that, after consultation with State Prosecutor Moshe Lador, the two came to the conclusion that there was not enough evidence to justify an investigation against Bar-On. The scandal made waves the first time after then-MK Yehiel Hazan was caught on camera allegedly voting in place of then-MK Inbal Gavrieli, who was not at her seat during a vote. Hazan was tried and convicted, and sentenced to public service. In recent months, a video showing Bar-On also allegedly voting in place of Gavrieli on another vote on the same day, came to light. Hazan has since requested a re-trial.
