Hamas claims to hold remains of IDF soldier killed in Operation Cast Lead

Hamas announced Sunday it was holding the remains and military gear of an IDF soldier killed in Operation Cast Lead. The group said the soldier was killed during an attempt to kidnap him. Hamas said that during a confrontation with the IDF, a gunman killed the soldier but the Israeli Air Force bombed the Jebaliyah home where the gunman was holding the soldier's body and the gunman was killed in the air-raid. The group's announcement said it was holding the remains of the soldier, including an IDF helmet, binoculars, a bullet cartridge and flak-jacket. The group added that the soldier was part of a "special forces" unit of the IDF. The military had no comment on the Hamas announcement.
