In a joint operation of the IDF and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) on Thursday morning, the IAF bombed a terror cell that was trying to carry out an attack by the Gaza Strip’s Karni crossing.A known 26-year-old Palestinian Islamic Jihad operative, Fares Ahmed Jaber, who was involved in firing rockets at Israel, was apparently killed in the attack, the army said. Another terrorist, who was involved in an attempt to execute a terror attack was also targeted and wounded. The IDF strike came in response to an attack by Palestinian gunmen who had fired on army patrol jeeps earlier Thursday morning along Gaza’s border. In that incident, the soldiers returned artillery and rifle fire in the direction of the gunmen. No soldiers were hurt in the attack, but the Palestinian Ma’an news agency reported that shrapnel from the IDF artillery injured three children in the El-Bureij refugee camp. The IDF said in a statement that it “will continue to work with determination and power against any person or group that uses terror against the state of Israel, and holds Hamas exclusively responsible for keeping the quiet in the Strip.” Earlier in the morning, Hamas announced that operative Muhammad Said Hassuneh, from the Ash-Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in Gaza, was killed during a "jihad" mission.
