IDF stops driver transporting 93 Palestinians

IDF troops on Monday spotted a truck driving on the trans-Samaria Highway carrying an unusual load. Not the typical sheep or chicken but 93 Palestinians being smuggled illegally into Israel in search of work. The truck was stopped by an IDF outpost near the Oranit Crossing and following a short chase was stopped by soldiers from the Artillery Corps who discovered the 93 passengers. The truck, the army said, was driven by an Israeli-Arab who they suspected smuggled Palestinians into Israel for work for a living. The driver and the Palestinians were taken by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) for questioning. Thousands of Palestinians are estimated to live and work illegally in Israel without necessary permits. Israeli-Arabs are frequently caught ferrying the workers into Israel from the West Bank while avoiding inspections at IDF checkpoints due to the Israeli license plates on their cars and trucks.
