Landau demands answers from IEC after blackout

National Infrastructures Minister Uzi Landau sent an urgent letter to Israel Electric Company (IEC) CEO Amos Lasker on Tuesday demanding an urgent accounting by the week's end after blackouts plagued the country on Monday. Landau demanded to know exactly why the power outage occurred and what the IEC was going to do to prevent further outages. He noted that it had been reported to him that the IEC did not have enough available generators. Landau added that he was particularly concerned because of reports he had been given that the IEC was prepared to meet Israel's energy needs this year, including peak times. Landau said he would convene a meeting next week to discuss the issue.
