Law would give returning citizens immediate health coverage
Under the current law, returning Israelis are not eligible for medical coverage for as many months as the years they were abroad.

The Knesset on Wednesday passed a preliminary reading of a bill that would enable the National Insurance Institute to provide immediate health care to returning Israelis.Under the current law, returning Israelis are not eligible for medical coverage for as many months as the years they were abroad – up to a maximum of six months – unless they pay a hefty fee. The bill would encourage the NII to grant returning Israelis immediate coverage without a fee.MKs Yoel Hasson (Kadima) and Carmel Shama (Likud), who co-chair the Knesset caucus for promoting western aliya, said the bill would remove a key obstacle to the return of many expatriates.
