Man, 41, shot to death outside Lod's city hall

Details are still uncertain as police scour the area for clues and suspects in afternoon shooting that left one man mortally wounded.

A 41-year-old Lod resident of was shot to death while sitting in his car early Sunday evening outside Lod's city hall on Hashmonaim Street. Police suspect that the motive for the shooting is criminal, but the victim, Sami Hijazi, has no known criminal record.
Shots rang out around 6 p.m. at a public square next to the municipality building fatally wounding Hijazi with a gunshot wound to the head while he was sitting next to his teenage daughter in his car.

Meanwhile, a large number of police officers spread out to investigate the crime scene and continue the search for the suspects tied to the shooting.
Located only about 15 km.southeast of Tel Aviv, Lod and its sister city Ramle have suffered from high levels of poverty, crime and drug abuse for years, and municipal leaders have launched numerous efforts to change the image and quality of both cities.
