Man held for stealing famous musical compositions from state archives

A 60-year-old Israeli man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing hundreds of precious manuscripts and internationally known musical compositions from various state archives over the last couple months, and then selling them over the internet, police said. The suspect, who is a resident of Haifa, is suspected of stealing the items from the National Library and the Israel Philharmonic archives. A search of the suspect's home uncovered some of the stolen materials, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said. The suspected thief, who is not talking to police, was remanded in custody by a Jerusalem court through Thursday, and will then be placed under house arrest for the next six days - with various additional restrictions - after posting NIS 50,000 bail.
