Man who spied for Iran loses appeal for early release reassessment

Nahum Manbar, serving a 16-year prison sentence for passing information and selling weapons to Iran, lost his appeal Wednesday for the Prisons Service Parole Committee to reassess his request to cut his sentence by a third. Manbar, who has already served 10.5 years of his prison sentence, submitted a psychological report which stated that he had expressed full remorse for his actions. His original appeal in August 2007 was rejected after the state expressed concern that he could once again become a security threat to Israel, and the Tel Aviv District Court ruled Wednesday that the circumstances had not changed.
