MDA and Red Crescent formally recognize eachother

Helping pave the way for Magen David Adom's (MDA) acceptance into the international humanitarian aid movement, the Palestinian humanitarian aid organization, 'Red Crescent,' signed a formal mutual recognition agreement Monday with MDA. The agreement marked an end to a dispute over use of the red Star of David which kept MDA out of the inernational rescue movement until now. The agreement between the two rescue forces, which took place in Geneva, came a week before a conference of the 192 signatories of the Geneva conventions, who are to determine whether MDA was to be accepted. The signatories are widely expected to formally recognize MDA's new symbol, a "red crystal," which is considered non-denominational, Israel Radio reported.
