Adam Abutbul was spotted by officers on the beat walking down a Netanya street in a suspicious manner, and they believed he was attempting to evade the police.
The officers pursued Abutbul by foot and stopped him for a search.
According to police, he verbally confronted the officers, before headbutting one of them.
He was arrested on the spot and brought to the Netanya Magistrate's Court for a remand hearing. Abutbul now faces charges of assaulting an officer and preventing an officer from carrying out his duties.
Abutbul's defense attorneys, Revital Swid and Merav Greenberg, said their client was the one who was attacked by overzealous officers keen to harass him.
The court remanded Abutbul in custody for three days. Prosecutors are likely to indict him next week.
Abutbul has had run-ins with the law before. In December 2008, he was placed under house arrest after being arrested for possession of an illegal firearm.
In September 2008, Adam's father, Charlie, was seriously wounded by a would-be assassin's bullets in a kiosk next door to Bat Haikar (The Farmer's Daughter), an Abutbul-owned restaurant in Netanya's industrial zone.
