A motorcyclist struck and injured a police officer manning a roadblock on a Bat Yam road, south of Tel Aviv, on Saturday afternoon. The officer and his partner had signaled to the motorcyclist to pull over. But the driver attempted to evade the roadblock instead, striking the police officer in the process, before fleeing the scene of the accident. The officer was evacuated by paramedics to the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer in serious condition. His condition improved significantly in the hours since the incident, police said. The Tel Aviv police district mobilized large numbers of officers on the ground and a police helicopter to search for the motorcyclist. Meanwhile a police forensics team arrived on the scene and collected fragments from the suspect's motorcycle, which can be used to trace the vehicle and identify the driver. The driver remained on the run on Saturday evening.
