Ofakim mayor, city council dismissed for failing to implement recovery plan

Interior Minister Meir Sheetrit dismissed Ofakim Mayor Avi Asaraf from his post and dissolved the Ofakim city council on Wednesday, after an investigation found that they had hired workers illegally and failed to implement a recovery plan for the city.
The Ofakim municipality said in response that the Interior Ministry's decision was surprising, saying that "just when the municipality got back on track, the ministry decided on the dismissal."
It added that it planned to appeal for a court order canceling the decision.
