Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Wednesday that while he did not rule out the possibility of a ground incursion into Gaza to prevent the smuggling of arms , such an incursion would not be his preferred course of action.
"That option is not my favorite one," Olmert said. "I do not think an incursion into the Gaza Strip is the correct response. There are other things that can be efficient."
Olmert was speaking to the press following his meeting with US President George W. Bush.
The prime minister also remarked that if the carnage in Gaza were to grow to the proportions of a massacre Israel would no longer be able to remain on the sidelines.
