A 20-year-old Beduin woman was found stabbed to death in her home by police officers in Ashkelon on Saturday. The woman's two-year-old daughter was discovered by officers near her mother's body. The child was unharmed and is currently under the care of her grandmother, while social services work out future custody arrangements, Lachish Police spokeswoman Bella Greenberg told The Jerusalem Post. The murder victim had been divorced before moving to Ashkelon a few months ago, where she met a boyfriend, Greenberg added. The boyfriend was arrested, but police are also checking a number of other directions in the investigation, Greenberg said. Police were first alerted to the address by the slain woman's mother, who reported arriving at the home and hearing her young granddaughter from behind the door. The murder victim's mother was unable to elicit a response from her daughter despite repeated requests to open the locked door. She then called the police, who broke into the apartment.
