The home of senior police officer Cmdr. Uri Bar-Lev was burgled on Saturday by thieves who made off with his computer, gun and vehicle. Bar-Lev reported that he and his family were asleep in their home, which is located in a small community near Ramle, during the break-in, adding that the thieves had found the keys to his police car before driving off. A major search to track down the culprits has been launched by Ramle police and the Central Unit of the police's Central District. Next month, the former Southern District commander is scheduled to take up his position as the Israel Police's attaché to the United States. The appointment ended a protracted attempt by police commissioner Insp.-Gen. David Cohen to fire Bar-Lev, and resulted in Bar-Lev withdrawing a High Court petition against Cohen's decision.
