Rav Moshe Halberstam dies at 74

Rav Moshe Halberstam, a senior member of the Haredi Badatz (High Halachic Court) in Jerusalem, died at the age of 74 around noon Wednesday in the Bikur Holim hospital. He was hospitalized Wednesday morning with shortness of breath and chest pain. The funeral procession will leave Zufnuk Square, at 26 Strauss St., at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Rav Halberstam was head of the Jerusalem Hatzalah organization, a volunteer group that provides first-aid and ambulance services. Some in the haredi world claim that he was the first to receive true semiha (rabbinical ordination) in two thousand years.
