Sheetrit: I will oppose any ceasefire with Hamas brought before the cabinet

Interior Minister Meir Sheetrit said on Sunday that he would oppose any ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel which is brought to the cabinet for approval. Such an agreement would effectively be an Israeli acceptance of a "more protected Hamas, one which is better armed and better trained," Sheetrit told ministers during the weekly cabinet meeting. "Without breaking Hamas's ability to resist would be to put hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens in range of missiles in the future," the interior minister continued, adding that "it is only a matter of time until rockets reach Ashdod, Beersheba, Netivot, Ofakim, and Kiryat Gat."
