Syrian newspapers critical of UN Gaza resolution

State-run newspapers in Syria have criticized a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hamas leading to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Official newspapers in Syria reflect the views of the government, which has so far not commented on the resolution that was approved Thursday. The newspaper Tishrin said Saturday the resolution disregards Palestinian demands but was compatible with most Israeli conditions. Another newspaper, Al-Thawra, said the resolution did not spell out a mechanism for implementation and was incapable of ending the fighting. The resolution was ignored by both Israeli troops and Hamas, who continued fighting.
