At a meeting late Monday night, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz decided that the Treasury will recommend that the government raise VAT (value added tax) by one percent, bringing it to 16.5%, according to Israel Radio.
The report added that Netanyahu and Steinitz made the decision as part of an effort to lower the national deficit.
