A 55-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man were killed Thursday evening after they were hit by a bus while attempting to cross the street near the Check Post Junction in Haifa. The two apparently crossed in an area that was no designated as a pedestrian-crossing. A first aid team from the Carmel region pronounced the man dead on site. Attempts to resuscitate the mortally injured woman were ultimately unsuccessful, and she died of her injuries. The 28-year-old Nazereth bus driver was taken to a police station, where his testimony was taken. Heavy traffic was reported in the area. 50 people have been killed on Israel's roads since the beginning of 2009.
