Two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at 27-year-old criminal Rafi Ben-Shimol on King George Street in Tel Aviv on Tuesday morning, in what appears to be a failed underworld assassination attempt. No injuries were reported. Police were canvassing the area in search of the shooters. The shooting took place near the WIZO kindergarten at 8:15 a.m., as parents were bringing their children to their day-care facility. Last month, a powerful blast shook Rehovot when a bomb planted on a van exploded, seriously wounding its 25-year-old driver. Police described the attack as a criminal assassination attempt. Tamir Amira, the wounded driver, was rushed to Rehovot's Kaplan hospital in serious condition, suffering from wounds to his limbs. His van was demolished in the explosion.
