Israel will continue to build in Jerusalem, Interior Minister Eli Yishai asserted in an interview with a Shas party newspaper on Thursday.
"We will build everywhere in the capital of the Jewish nation's everlasting homeland, and I have clarified this to our American counterparts and friends," he said.
Yishai went on to say that Israel did not agree to freeze construction in the capital, adding, "The government will not give in to American pressure."
"There is not and never has been a freeze on construction in Jerusalem, nor will there ever be," Yishai reiterated.

While Yishai was firm on his stance that building would continue, he admitted that the issue would not be raised during upcoming visits by senior US officials.
The interior minister hopes to expedite planning and construction procedures across the country, but specifically in Jerusalem where the housing shortage has forced many residents out of the city.
Yishai added that he instructed the Jerusalem Building and Planning Council to reconvene after days of delayed sessions in order to discuss the renewal of building in the Shuafat area.
