Actress Mila Kunis is beautiful, Jewish, has great comedic timing, and is attending the US Marine Corps. Ball this fall. Sgt. Scott Moore, of the 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines in Musa Qala, Afghanistan, asked Kunis to the ball via a YouTube video that went viral since it was posted last month. The Black Swan and "That 70s Show" star accepted Moore's invitation at the behest of Justin Timberlake, her co-star in the upcoming movie Friends With Benefits. Timberlake told Kunis to "do it for your country" during an interview on Fox News, and after checking with her publicist, Kunis agreed.
Ever since a precocious pint-sized preteen took the fashion world by storm, the style-conscious have wondered who will be the next young blogger to fill Tavi Gavinson's shoes. If The New York Times is to be believed, it's 18-year-old Bebe Zeva (a pseudonym – she refused to reveal her birth name) of the blog "Fated To Be Hated" (ftbh.blogspot.com). Bebe and Tavi have a lot in common – quirky sartorial choices, fans at the pinnacle of the fashion-world elite, and they're both Jewish.
This week, Sherwood Schwartz, passed away at age 94. You may recognize his name from the credits of classic TV shows "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch," but what you may not know is that he wrote both shows' memorable theme songs. Here's the story of a lovely lady…
When New York Knicks stare Amar'e Stoudemire visited Israel last year and talked about his possibly-Jewish roots, the media went crazy. So, it wasn't surprising when a recent tweet by the basketball player set the internet abuzz. He wrote: "Should I go to Israel and play for Maccabi Tel Aviv during the lockout?" Sadly, the thrill did not last for very long. Perhaps because he wanted to show unity with other NBA players in the current labor dispute, Stoudemire tweeted the next day: "My loyalty is with the State of New York and the NYKs."
What are you drinking this Shabbat? If the answer is Coca-Cola, you may want to check out the new "Shabbat Cola." The fizzy brown drink is now available for purchase in a six-pack of bottles featuring Shabbat candles and challahs. The box comes with a Shabbat-appropriate board game for the whole family, and the bottles have the following message emblazoned on them: "Coca-Cola is happy to be a part of your Shabbat joy each week anew." Only in Israel!
Finally, we have a video of some beautiful views of Israel. The clip, filmed in IMAX 3D, is a preview of a Christian documentary called Jerusalem that will be released in 2013. You may not have IMAX on your computer, but the view is still pretty great.
