'Angel of Death' Josef Mengele's writings to be auctioned

The 3,300 page collection includes Mengele's autobiography, political thoughts, poems, stories, illustrations and diaries.

The "Angel of Death" Josef Rudolf Mengele's writings will be auctioned off by Alexander Historic Auctions of Stamford Connecticut on July 21, 2011.
The entire collection of documents, which includes Mengele's autobiography, philosophical, eugenical, and political works, poems, stories, illustrations and diaries is over 3,300 pages long.

His autobiography details his escape from Europe to South America and his travels and life in hiding during the 1950's, 60's and 70's.
His daily journal describes his evasion from authorities in South America and is written largely in the third person, using pseudonyms.
Portions of his autobiography were published in a biography by Gerald Posner and John Ware entitled "Mengele: The Complete Story".
Josef Mengele was born in Gunzburg, Bavaria, Germany in 1911. He was stationed at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1943 after receiving the Iron Cross Second Class for his accomplishments as a soldier in the Waffen-SS on the Eastern Front in the Ukraine.
A doctor by trade, he earned in the nickname "The Angel of Death" for the cruel and twisted experiments he performed on prisoners in Auschwitz.
After the war Mengele escaped to South America. He evaded capture for 34 years until dying while swimming in the Atlantic ocean in 1979. His was buried in Embu, Brazil under the name Wolfgang Gerhard.
