It is time for a dialogue between Israel and world Jewry and “everything must be put on the table,” Kadima leader Tzipi Livni said, speaking on Sunday at the opening of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations taking place in Jerusalem this week.
Livni also made the usual pitch for a two-state solution to the Israeli- Palestinian conflict and encountered hostility to the idea during question time.
“After the leaks from Al-Jazeera you know that I know how to be tough in negotiations,” she said, declaring that she would not under any circumstances undermine Israel’s security.
“No one is going to give the key of a future Palestinian state to Hamas, certainly not me,” she asserted.
Livni did not delude herself that the establishment of a Palestinian state would bring utopia.
“We’re not going to live in a new Middle East,” she said. “Were in a very tough neighborhood. A Palestinian state won’t solve the problem but it will change the trend of the delegitimizing of Israel.”
