Atlit road works near completion

The NIS 6.5 million project to upgrade the notorious Atlit intersection is expected to be completed by the end of this month, according to the Israeli National Roads Company (Ma'atz). The work, which began in October last year, has included the widening of the intersection, the creation of new lanes and traffic islands, the construction of safety rails and road signs, and the installation of new drains, street lights and traffic lights, reports www.mynet.co.il. According to the report, the busy intersection is infamous for its high number of lethal traffic accidents, and the road work is aiming to prevent more of these. A company spokesman said the completion of the work would result in a significant improvement in traffic flow in the area, and drivers would "be able to enjoy a comfortable and safe journey."
