The Solel-Boneh building company has been chosen by the National Roads Company to carry out a NIS 13 million upgrade of three bridges on the highway north of Eilat, reports www.mynet.co.il. The company will spend the next 11 months upgrading the Hatzeva, Nekarot and Tsin bridges on Highway 90, enabling them to carry heavy vehicles as well as cars. According to the report, the project calls for strengthening the bridges with concrete, replacing the safety rails and drains, and sealing the road surfaces. The bridges are used when traveling to Eilat and to military bases in the area. The report said the road works are not expected to disrupt traffic flow. Meanwhile, Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz has promised that work to build an interchange at the busy Lahavim intersection near Beersheba will begin in 2010, reports www.local.co.il. The minister made the promise on a visit to the area last week, and also said the parking lot at the intersection's train station would be expanded to encourage more drivers to take the train. The report said the minister also promised to fund safety features at Lahavim such as traffic islands and raised intersections, as well as encouraging the construction of bicycle paths around the town.
