Social Justice candidate vies for K. Shmona mayorship

The party has selected Dr. Dudu Shik as its candidate to replace Mayor Haim Barbivai, who was convicted of taking bribes.

Billionaire Arkadi Gaydamak's Social Justice Party has set its sights on Kiryat Shmona's mayoral seat, www.local.co.il reports. The party, which - according to the report - has been testing its political strength in the country's northernmost city, has selected Dr. Dudu Shik as its candidate to replace Mayor Haim Barbivai, who was convicted of taking bribes and will not be running for another term. Shik served as an officer in the elite Shayetet 13 naval commando unit and special adviser to former defense minister Moshe Arens. Shik's candidacy was confirmed last week in a meeting with Social Justice Secretary-General attorney David Nordsky. Immediately after the decision was announced, Shik began setting up headquarters for Social Justice in Kiryat Shmona. The candidate promised that the party's headquarters would operate throughout the year, regardless of the election results.
