The Tel Aviv District Planning and Construction Committee has approved large-scale plans for the development of the area northwest of the Kiryat Shalom neighborhood in south Tel Aviv, reports www.local.co.il. The plans call for 66,400 square meters of construction for residential buildings, 1,816 square meters of construction for public buildings, 27 dunams for open public space, 14 dunams for sport and leisure facilities, and 53 dunams for a park.
According to the report, the so-called "Kiryat Shalom-North West" area is bounded on the north by Rehov Kibbutz Galuyot, on the east by Kiryat Shalom, and on the west by the School for Nature, Environment and Society and a Russian Orthodox church. It contains a declared archeological site and a wooded area slated for preservation.
The report said the plans take into account the natural and archeological areas, and create a wide green strip across the neighborhood to the sea and to the Ayalon Park. Some 650 residential units are to be built in the area after the committee approved the addition of 150 units to the original plans. The plans allow for buildings of up to six stories to be constructed along the border with Kiryat Shalom and of up to 20 stories along Rehov Lavon.
