Medical clinic to make way for apartment building

The Tel Aviv District Planning and Construction Committee has approved plans to demolish most of the Zamenhoff medical clinic and to construct a residential apartment building on the site instead, reports www.local.co.il. Although the medical building was listed for preservation by the city, the committee decided that two of its three wings could be torn down, and that only the third wing should be preserved. According to the report, the committee approved a change in the building's classification from "public" to "residential," and is allowing the construction of a four-storey residential building containing up to 51 apartments on the 1.8-dunam site. The committee authorized the restoration of some original decorative elements on the building, and ruled that 15 percent of the site should be left open and should be planted with trees. The plans include parking and basements underneath the building.
