Underground garbage bin project expands

The city felt the first 25 bins were so successful that it has decided to expand the project, placing 127 more this year.

Tel Aviv replaced 25 garbage dumpsters with special underground garbage bins last year and is planning to replace 127 more this year, reports www.local.co.il. The bins, which look like ordinary bins but which are fixed in place and open to a large underground garbage container, help reduce bad smells and scattered garbage, as well as saving space above ground. According to the report, the city felt the first 25 bins were so successful that it has decided to expand the project, placing 127 more this year and an additional 87 in 2009. This year the bins will be placed in the Neveh Golan, Yafo Gimmel, Nir Aviv and Neveh Hen neighborhoods, while in 2009 the bins will be placed in the Neveh Ofer neighborhood.
