7 Pakistani soldiers shot dead near Afghan border

Insurgents opened fire on three vehicles carrying Pakistani security forces in a northwestern tribal region near the Afghan border Thursday, killing seven and wounding 22, an army spokesman said. Nine soldiers were also wounded in the attack on the outskirts of Miran Shah, the main town in North Waziristan, said the official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. The official said the injured had been transported to a hospital where at least three soldiers were listed in critical condition.
