UAE-based peace activist Loay Alshareef on Tuesday urged Israel and the Jewish people to support the Iranian public’s struggle for freedom, invoking what he described as a historical “debt” to Cyrus the Great.
“To all of you here, the Jewish people, you are indebted to the Persian people,” Alshareef said, speaking at The Jerusalem Post Miami Summit in Miami. “Cyrus the Great freed your ancestors 2,500 years ago. Now is the time to repay the debt, to free the Iranians, and to make Iran great again.”
Israeli messaging on Iran’s protests
Alshareef’s call echoed recent statements by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who on January 4 expressed solidarity with Iranians demonstrating for “freedom, liberty, and justice.” He said Israel stands with their aspirations amid the ongoing unrest.
The Jerusalem Post Group held its second Miami Summit on Wednesday in partnership with The Shul of Bal Harbour and Israel Discount Bank, convening Israeli officials, US policymakers, and community leaders to discuss security, resilience, and diaspora ties.
“Now is the time to repay the debt, to free the Iranians, and make Iran great again,” Alshareef said.
