Agencies seek $462 million in aid for Palestinians

United Nations and other aid agencies are appealing for $462 million to fund humanitarian projects for the Palestinians in 2009.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that the money was earmarked for 159 programs in areas such as health, education, food, water and sanitation.
Wednesday's statement launching the 2009 appeal said that Israeli measures have brought about "a rapid and significant increase in poverty and unemployment" in the past year.
