Air guards foiled an attempt to hijack an Iranian passenger plane late Saturday.
The IRNA news agency reported Sunday that the attempted hijacking took place on a flight from Teheran to the city of Ahvaz, about 500 miles (800 kilometers) southwest of the capital.
The report did not identify the would-be hijacker or give details on the incident.
Iran has applied tough airline security measures since a series of back-to-back hijackings in the early 1980s.
