Assad: Holding direct talks with Israel is only natural

It is only natural for Damascus to hold direct talks with Israel since it is impossible to strike a peace deal with indirect negotiations, Syrian President Bashar Assad said Monday. During a press conference in Damascus, the Syrian president said the current Turkish-mediated talks were setting the foundations for the peace process and that if those foundations were firm, the direct talks would be successful and would continue until a peace accord was reached.
