Baghdad bomb kills 6 as early voting gets underway

Six people were killed by a roadside bomb in northwestern Baghdad on Thursday as early voting for parliamentary elections took place across the country.An Iraqi police official said the bomb was hidden in a garbage heap at the entrance to an outdoor market in a predominantly Shi'ite neighborhood.A local hospital official confirmed the casualties.The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.US and Iraqi officials have warned insurgents could launch attacks to disrupt Iraq's March 7 ballot.Early voting began Thursday for security forces and others.The police official said the blast happened 500 yards (meters) from a polling station that was not taking part in early voting.
