Egypt: We've received no new requests to mediate another Gaza truce

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry says that it has not received any requests from Israel or Hamas to mediate a new Gaza truce agreement. "Unlike in the past, we have not been asked to act on the issue," said Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Husam Zaki. Zaki also defended the continued closure of the Rafah border crossing, saying that if Egypt did open the terminal, it would turn into the main Gaza crossing and the move would be interpreted as allowing Israel to shirk responsibility for the transfer of goods and people to the Strip. The Foreign Ministry spokesman went on to say that opening the crossing would further perpetuate the split between Gaza and the West Bank.
