An Egyptian security official says border police have fatally shot an African migrant trying to cross into Israel. Egypt has killed dozens of Africans trying to cross the border in the past two years in search of jobs, drawing criticism from rights groups. The official says police first fired in the air as a warning to the man attempting to cross the barbed wire border fence at dawn on Friday. He says police fired on him when he failed to respond. His nationality was unknown. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Human Rights Watch said in a November report that since June 2007, Egyptian guards have killed nearly three dozen migrants, including a 7-year-old girl.
