Hamas unveiled its campaign platform Monday, saying it would promise voters clean government and reforms, and planned to refrain from staging military-style rallies with gunmen and weapons. The group poses a strong challenge to Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas' corruption-tainted Fatah movement in the Jan. 25 election for parliament. While Hamas said it has not dropped the option of what it calls "armed struggle" against Israel, a statement by the group suggested the issue would not play a prominent role in the campaign. Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri also said the group has not yet decided whether to join a future Palestinian government, but is ready to cooperate with the international community.More about:Hamas, Mahmoud Abbas, Israel, Fatahfunction initServerVars() { _headup.clientHost = 'http://newstopics.jpost.com'; _headup.termsFromServer = 'Hamas$$Mahmoud Abbas$$Palestinian government$$Israel$$Fatah'; _headup.annotatedTerms = ['dbpedia:Hamas$$1', 'dbpedia:Mahmoud_Abbas$$1'] _headup.widgetMode = 'snippet'; _headup.snippetButtonStyle = 'banner'; _headup.blackListedUrl = false; } <!-- Terms Count: 5 TTL: 60 Terms From Server: Palestinian government, Mahmoud Abbas, Israel, Hamas, Fatah DateTime: 6/6/2011 5:01:08 AM -->
