US President Donald Trump said that the US's Operation Epic Fury against Iran is "moving along very well - ahead of schedule," during a phone call with CNBC's Joe Kernen on Sunday.

"It's a very violent regime, one of the most violent regimes in history. We're doing our job not just for us but for the world. And everything is ahead of schedule," Trump added.

Describing the "potential off-ramp to end the conflict," Trump told Kernen that it depends on many variables but that things are moving in a positive direction.

"Things are evolving in a very positive way right now, a very positive way," Trump said.

Later in the day, Trump gave an interview with Fox News's Jacqui Heinrich, telling her that the president knows how many Iranian targets are left to hit. He told Heinrich that "48 Iranian leaders were wiped out in one shot, adding that Operation Epic Fury is moving along 'rapidly.'"

Trump, earlier on Sunday, warned Iran that if the country intended to strike “very hard” later in the day, Washington would respond with “a force that has never been seen before.”

"Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever hit before. THEY BETTER NOT DO THAT," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Attack went as planned, Trump confirms

Later, in an interview with The Daily Mail, Trump said that the fighting was expected to go on for around four more weeks.

"It's always been a four week process. We figured it will be four weeks or so. It's always been about a four week process so - as strong as it is, it's a big country, it'll take four weeks - or less," the President explained.

He also said that the attack had gone according to plan, adding, "You know, other that we took out their entire leadership - far, far more than what we thought. Looks like 48."
