The US military conducted strikes against military targets on Iran's Kharg Island, a US official confirmed to The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.
The official described the strikes as "restrikes on what we hit previously," having taken place in the early morning hours EST.
The strikes included attacks on Kharg Island's air defenses, a US official confirmed to Walla on Tuesday.
Explosions were heard after the airstrikes hit Iran's Kharg Island, local media reported earlier on Tuesday afternoon.
Kharg Island is key target during Iran war
The island has become a focal point in recent weeks, with the Trump administration reportedly planning an operation for US Marines to seize control of the island.
It plays a key role in Iran's oil production, with 90% of Iranian oil exports processed and shipped from the island.
The first outlet to report on the US attack against targets in Kharg was The Wall Street Journal, which said 50 sites were targeted during the strikes, with no attacks against the island's oil infrastructure.
A previous attack was already done by the US during the first weeks of the war, with Trump saying that the attack " totally obliterated every military target in Iran’s crown jewel," while the US also avoided targeting oil facilities during the strikes.
This is a developing story.
