US President Donald Trump requested on Tuesday that the Iranian leaders release eight women who are expected to soon be executed by the regime.

"I would greatly appreciate the release of these women," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. "I am sure that they will respect the fact that you did so. Please do them no harm!"

He added that the women's release would be a good start to negotiations between Iran and the US.

The state-affiliated IRNA News Agency later claimed that Iran's judiciary denied Trump's assertion that the women were at risk of being educated.

Trump claims credit for averting executions

Trump has previously claimed credit for Iran's cancellation of the planned execution of civilians during the Iran protests earlier this year.

In January, Trump told the press that he had "stopped 837 hangings" in Iran. "And I said, 'If you hang those people, you're gonna be hit harder than you've ever been hit.'"

Iran denied Trump's claims at the time.

“The US president has said he stopped the execution of 800 people in Iran, but this is completely false,” Prosecutor-General of Iran Mohammad Movahedi Azad was quoted as saying by Iranian state media. “The judiciary is an independent institution and does not take orders from foreigners."
