Inmates at Lebanon's largest prison have started a riot and set their clothes on fire, security officials said Tuesday.
There was no word on casualties.
The officials said police reinforcements were sent to Roumieh prison east of Beirut to put the situation under control. The prison was built to house 1,000 prisoners, but today it has more than 3,000.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to the media.
